Vermutlich ist das Transferieren von DVD - Content auf mobile Player inzwischen ein so heißes Eisen, dass man dieses Feld von vorneherein risikofreudigen Drittanbietern überläßt. Wer auf seinem Video-iPod jedenfalls nicht nur die bei iTunes nun erhältlichen Videoclips oder Fernsehserien betrachten will, kann einen Blick auf die DVDtoipod - Software der niederländischen Makayama werfen. Die Demoversion des iPod - optimierten DVD-Rippers ist kostenlos, knappe 30 Euronen werden für eine Vollversion verlangt, die anschließend jedoch beliebig lang genutzt und auch geupdated werden kann. Mittels dreier Mausklicks könne man mit der Soft sowohl aufgenommenes Filmmaterial wie auch DVDs komplett mit Untertiteln, Surround-Sound und mehreren Sprachen in ein Format bringen, welches der iPod problemlos abspielen kann. 100 Stunden Film sollen so bereits auf dem 30GB - Modell unterzubringen sein. Welche DRM - Systeme die Software beachtet, ist nicht bekannt, es scheint jedoch, dass die Hersteller es weitgehend dem Kunden überlassen, die entsprechenden Gesetze zu befolgen. So heißt es in der EULA: This software was not designed or produced to circumvent technology that effectively protects access to, or restricts the duplication of, copyrighted material. It has a commercially significant purpose other than to circumvent; being primarily designed to transcode home movies, tv-programming, personal video and audio files, residing on a users hard drive, into a lossy, strongly compressed file. Its sole purpose is to enable a platform-shift for playback of lawfull aquired content, under the fair use principle. When using the option to convert DVD's, U.S. customers are bound to the terms of the Digital Millenium Copyright Act. British customers may use this software only when in full compliance with the Copyright and Related Rights Regulations 2003. Customers from all other countries are bound to their national laws respectively. I am aware that international copyright laws prohibit the unauthorized reproduction. distribution, or exhibition of copyrighted materials. I will not resell, reproduce, distribute or commercially exploit this archival copy as I am aware that this is strictly forbidden. I respect the rights of the copyright holders.
